I get it - custom framing can be a bit of a mystery if you’re new to it, but it’s pretty simple.

Bring your piece in during our opening hours for a consultation (no appointment necessary). We’ll help you make all the choices - mounting style, matboard, moulding, glass. We’re masters at narrowing down what you need and nailing your style.

You’ll leave the studio with a fixed price and an expected completion date. No deposit is required.

You’ll be notified by text or email when your piece is ready to collect. It’s that easy!

Have something you’d like framed for a special occasion? It’s best to bring it in at least 4 weeks before you’d like to collect it. This allows time for ordering materials, delivery from our suppliers and fabrication in the studio.

Have you left it a bit late? Don’t worry, we do our best to make magic happen. We hold plenty of stock in our storeroom and will always do our best to meet your deadlines.

That’s hard to say without a consultation. Price is determined by so many factors beyond holding up your hands to show me how big your piece is. The great thing is that a consultation is free, with no obligation and we can work with your budget.

What can’t be framed?! (Slugs. Don’t try framing a slug). We frame all sorts of things - apart from artworks, we regularly frame sporting jerseys and memorabilia, korowai, vinyl records, sculptural art, and various objects. We’ve framed a panel from an aircraft, christening gowns, dried flowers, flax weavings, jewellery and shells. And probably more oddities that I can’t recall. I’m always up for a challenge - let’s chat about your weird ideas.

Do we ever! It’s a privilege to be the framer for choice for many members of the embroidery guild (and accomplished renegade stitchers too). Framing needleworks requires specialist knowledge - you know you’re in good hands at Moot Point Studio. Love needlework but hate lacing your pieces for framing? - I can do that for you.

Yep! We can stretch raw canvas, primed canvas, painted canvas, printed canvas. Our stretchers (the frame that the canvas is stretched over) are made in the studio using NZ pine to the exact size required.

Glass! My favourite topic.

Moot Point Studio offers 6 different types of glass - but don’t let that overwhelm you! During your consultation we can chat about what you need - the considerations are UV protection, reflection control, high clarity, and of course budget. Different art, different hanging location, different requirements.

And let’s not forget Acrylic! Also available in a variety of options, it’s lighter than glass and available in larger sheets - perfect for those HUGE pieces.

You’ll want to enjoy your artwork for years to come so here are a few tips to ensure it stays vibrant and protected.

Where to hang your artwork:

• Avoid direct sunlight: UV rays can fade pigments and damage paper. We use UV-protective glazing, but placement still matters.

• Keep away from heat and moisture: Avoid hanging near radiators, fireplaces, or in damp areas like bathrooms or kitchens.

• Maintain stable conditions: Ideal environments are cool, dry, and consistent in temperature and humidity.

Keeping your pieces clean:

• Dust regularly: Use a soft microfiber cloth to clean the frame. Avoid sprays or polishes.

• Clean glass with care: Spray cleaner onto a cloth—not directly on the glass—and avoid ammonia-based products.

• If your piece is framed with acrylic glazing: Avoid glass cleaners entirely — they can cause clouding or fine scratches. Use a soft microfiber cloth lightly dampened with distilled water instead.

If you ever need to move or store your artwork:

• Handle from the sides: Hold the frame by both vertical edges to avoid pressure on the glazing.

• Keep it upright: Never lay framed artwork face‑down on hard surfaces.

• Store in a dry, stable space: Wrap lightly in bubble wrap or a soft cloth, and avoid garages or sheds.

If something doesn’t look right:

• Warping, slipping, or moisture spots: Get in touch. These issues are usually easy to fix, and early intervention prevents long‑term damage.
